fourth of july muthersratchers

made the annual trip down to breck for the fc50. teamed up with butch so that we each only had to a lap. so in essence, that makes it an fc25 ...

butch rode well and i felt better than i thought. in fact we did so good that we didn't get last. although that result didn't come without a little drama. we got second to last in our category by a most slim 1.5 second margin (page 24). there was another expert team rider charging hard on a full suspension (butch and i rode the singles) down the final descent. through the switchbacks into carter park i kept screwing him up by braking late and then jumping on that little gear coming out of the turn. kind of dropped him but i could still hear him back there coming on to the flat towards the finish. i dug deep though and wound that 34x20 up to 15 mph. f'ing a man, my thighs were on fire. like i told butch, we wouldn't get last.

.......................

so here are some pics i took on the drive over to breck. i went the long way over cameron pass, took the short-cut rand and then willow pass, where i parked the truck and curled up in the back with sue. oh purdy good.

diamond peaks.

paramount ridge.

colorado gravel.

high country plains.

sue.

there is a moose in this picture, though it is kind of hard to see. big animals are cool.
