yup, up in the mtns. for the rest of the week. rode the motorbike, which was awesome. whats awesomer is this is a work trip and they reimburse mileage at .485 cents per mile. and i usually get 65 mpg. it was 140 miles total today. gas is $3 a gallon. you do the math - it adds up to cha-ching.
so i'm crashing at a sweet executive suite, attending the CASTA conference to learn a few things, pick up a grant award or two (to the tune of about $210,000), and generally hob knob with other colorado transit folks. you could say this new job is working out for both me and my new employer. i've got a sixer of 90 schilling in the fridge, and some frozen pizza in the microwave - puttin' my per diem to good use. oh purty goo-oood.
.........
decided that i don't think i'm gonna do any 'cross this year. i'm too heavy. so instead, i'm going to start running for a cause. like a competitive 5k in a month, then a competitive 10k the month after, and then i'm gonna attempt a half marathon in the early spring. then a marathon in the late spring. crazy talk i know, but its where my mind is taking me right now. get outta the way of my mind.
that being said, i'd love to get a fft (fruita fall trip) in sometime in the next couple months. ganz? butch? can you hear me now?
.........
thinking a little about 9/11 - kind of hard not too. not that hard though. i'm thankful that no-one i know disappeared as a result of the event itself or the madness that has consumed our country since. much love to you all.

Have you done a lot of running, or is this a new venture?
in a past life, i could run a sub 17 minute 5k and crank out a 4.5 minute mile. but that was a long time ago, before i started cycling competitively. so to answer your question, i'm making an attempt at rediscovering the discipline that got me into healthy lifestyle thing. going back to my roots a bit, you could say.
i'll still ride, just don't want to think about racing anymore. with my current fitness level it seems daunting to get back to where i was, even last year. and that depresses me.
Mancation? First weekend of November?
Monarch Crest this Sunday w/SHouse, if you're feeling it. I promise not to race you uphill.
m/c might be a go for me this weekend. we'll see. that'd be an early departure from the fort. but daaaaaamn that is a fun ride.
i'm down for planning a trip to fruita 1st weekend in november.
Come down Saturday and camp in BV with us.
buena vista eh? i hear there is a good view there.
we'll see. i'm kind of looking forward to getting back home. missin' the gf and suey. i'll let you know.
Bring the lady, and your funny named dog. The ladies are doing some hiking while we're doing some riding.

Seth, of course. You guys are welcome anytime. I'm still in Fort Collins, working for an outfit called the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization. Check us out at nfrmpo.org for the low down.
