day 9: 136

so today is day nine of this cleanse/detox. here is the long and the short of it.

- i was allegedly a little grumpy at times last week. i attribute it to no coffee and no beer. and no cheese. i really miss eating cheese.

- my energy levels have fluctuated a bit, but nothing drastic. still riding to work, still getting some bike riding in, still able to push my old-school rotary mower around the front yard.

- the sudden influx of good kitchem waste (green bits from all the green veggies i've been eating) have got the compost pile hopping. i went out to stir it (and ad some more bits) yesterday morning and it was steaming. in 50 degree weather. there is some serious biocombustion going on in there. that is pretty cool.

- i've lost 6 lbs in the last 9 days. its a little nuts to weigh in at a buck thriry six. haven't weighed that little since i left lincoln and moved to philly. never thought i'd see that kind of number again actually. the good thing is i feel strong, and at this point i do not believe i'm losing muscle mass. if it continues to drop at that rate (or gets much lower than that) i will probably pull the plug on this thing. that doesn't seem to healthy to me. but what do i know?

- bike rides of note: rode rist canyon for the first time this year last friday. felt better than i thought i might considering i've been eating not much more than spinach and greens all week. rolled through the steep parts with no problem. actually that was the best i'd felt going up that climb in two or three years. then yesterday i rode up to estes and back with sir wilhelm. i knew i would ride faster with him along, but i was surprised with the outcome of the ride. right around 4h20 or so. that is the second fastest i've done that ride (a 4h15 back in 2005). the best part - i felt fantastic and didn't feel like i've lost any power. the glenhaven climb was the easiest its ever been. well, it would've been if i wasn't trying (successfully) to drop some tri-geek with an aero bike. i put myself in the hurt locker on that one but it was worth it.

Dude, I want to learn more about this detox. I've just started riding again after a winter/spring of, well, not riding. I need to drop some weight.
