and now we're into may

and it was snowing on the commute to work this a.m. wtf? i felt like i stepped out of a time machine into 5 months ago. i'm over it.

i've been riding a fair amount. around 3-4 days a week, a mix of on the road and off. this last weekend i got to ride with gb clark of tomac bicycles. showed him around the hogbacks west of town a little ... a short and sweet ride with a little bit of climbing thrown in. man i like that guy. man i like riding my new bike.

sunday last was the 3rd estes ride of the year. rowe went with me. we had good weather and i got a tad sunburned on the way home. i almost, almost, bonked for like the first time since i don't know when. i'm gonna chalk it up to the fact that i recently started the "21 day standard process" detoxification program. the program diet and supplement based (so sue me), only organic raw foods and vegetables the first 8 days. and a bunch of supplements. a whole bunch of supplements. but that is alright. here's a list of some of the things i can't have:

no coffee
no beer or any alcohol
no bread or baked goods of any variety
no nuts
no sugar in any form
no dried fruits
no processed foods. period.
no pasta
no dairy whatsoever

it hasn't been as hard as i anticipated ... but then again i am pretty excited to see the results if i stick to the program. sure i have 'craving' (damn whoever left those girl scout samoa's on the table in the break work at work - for the record i abstained but THAT was tempting) but nothing that doesn't pass relatively quickly. and besides, its good for me to excercise this level of self control ... i haven't been taking the best care of myself for some time now. i think this is why i'm excited and committed to seeing this through as best i can for 3 weeks.

i'm only 4 days in as i type, but honestly i think the worst (being caffeine withdrawals) is over. i'm only doing this for the detox benefits, but it is interesting to watch the weight. here's how it is going so far.

day 1: (pre estes ride on sunday the 12th) 142.5 lbs.

day 2: 139.5 (i thought i was dehydrated from the ride the day prior)

day 3: 139.0

day 4: 139.5

i'm hoping not to loose too much weight and i really don't want to loose any power. i can start eating meat again on sunday if i want. i hope to attempt a big ride on friday so we'll see how the energy levels fair after 6 days of this.

so far i've eaten an ass-load of spinach, green beans, brussel sprouts, snap peas, asparagus, yams, lentils, tomatos, brocolli, bananas, apples, oranges, and so on and so forth. and it all has been super good (spices, GOOD oil, vinager, etc. are allowed) and i'm not bored of it at all. in fact i think the meal planning kind of suits my personality ... and it is amazing how much money i'm saving not eating out everyday for lunch, and not spending a shit load (its kind of embarassing actually) on beer. our good local beer is kind of spendy after all, and i do like it. but you already knew that.

how am i feeling physically? sunday night was a little rough after riding about 80 miles in the mountains and not being able to snarf a bunch of bread and meat afterwards. monday was a bit toucn and go as the caffeine withdrawal really set in and i am sure i was adjusting to the diet because i had no energy at all. yesterday i felt like i was buzzing all day but no headache. today (wednesday the 12th) is pretty much the same, though i haven't been experiencing hunger pangs like the last few days. in fact i kind of feel like a million bucks to be honest. we'll see if we can keep this all going.

and here is a picture of me, mw, and sally before the start of ss worlds in durango last fall. good stuff.
