Thats the name of a book about the guy who designed central park - Frederick Law Olmstead. He's also rumored to have designed our own Oval over at the CSU campus here in the Fort. But thats not what I'm going to talk about.
Sunday I was on a bike ride with some buddies outside of Fruita. We had struggled with the weather (sucktacular rain) to at least some degree every day of the trip. Except Sunday. It was dry, no threatening clouds, sun high, and a light wind. Nice weather for pedaling. We set out to go ride a standard - the "western rim". Those mf'rs didn't tell me we were going to go into Utah on that one. But we kept a low profile so's the UAWSA's (Utah Anti-Wanker Special Agents) didn't swarm us with their black helicopters. Not that there was any wanking going on ... they are just so suspicious over there ya know.
Finished an out and back and BG mentions this 'eastern rim' trail which, if navigable, will take us back to trail 2 - the first leg of our journey back to camp. we start off across a grassy slope, heading towards a faint trail etched into the side of a wash.
it is soft, but not muddy. might not have been ridden yet this year. its hard to say. we could make out a faint line that was obvious cattle trail. but it worked. we wound our way around to a point where we could see the entire valley. magnificent cliffs on all sides, colorado river snaking through the bottom, lush grass growing alongside a narrow dirt road. sun so bright that everything was crystal clear.
in spite of our stuggles with weather redemption was the word of the day. it was almost as glorious as that she-mullet we spied at the campground. magnificent.
========================
and now i'm back to reality. and there is a different kind of clarity that has come into view. multidimensional, personally dissapointing but intellectually inspiring nonetheless. it may be necessary to hit the "reset" button very soon. and at times like this folks, everything is on the table. i want that feeling of redemption from my struggles that we had on sunday. planning and a little luck will help.
the future?

That professor is h-o-t.
I was fully ready to pack it in Saturday morning for anywhere but there. Our patience (or, mostly everyone else's patience) payed off.
Redemtion was indeed the name of the day.
