a post

so yeah, someone emailed me asking what gives about my neglect in updating this thing. so i decided to make a post. but i'm still saying "screw you". and nate/eric: thanks for the free hub and rim - i never thought i'd be sponsered by monkey wrench cycles ;).

daverill stuff:
birthday was about the best ever. seriously. i knew i had some good karma coming my way, but wow. that was pay back times two. honestly, if that is the taste of things to come in my 34th year on this planet, i'll take it. please, keep it coming. something is working but i don't know what. but who am i to ask too many questions? i'm daverill thats who.

been riding a bunch. 5 days last week. oh purdy good. rist canyon time trial (local climb, my little 'benchmark' bi-weekly test) one day and i was only off my pr by a little bit. i was stoked because a). i didn't total kill myself on the effort and b) it was only the second time i've ridden "in the hills" really this year. got me thinking about how i'm gonna take the top step at firecracker this year .... it'll be my first step towards global dominance. the other days of riding were, in no particular order: stove prairie loop, yes! two fixed rides!

the long view: cyclocross! cyclocross! cyclocross!

we are setting up to have a pretty sweet bike to work week in fort collins this year. i'm stoked that i helped hire the right guy for the job. any of you mofo's in lincoln remember a "DK" who did the "Tour de Fat" there? he's our guy ... insane energy. boy likes to down the pbr tall boys too. yesssssssss. my new buddy.

i think i bruised a rib the other night. i was riding home from a night of debauchery and stopped pedalling. which isn't usually problematic, but i was riding the fixey. oh shit. i landed on the stem/handlebars and fell in the street. i was going slow so not bad at all. worst thing was tearing my carharts a smidge. so i'm picking myself up and these other drunken yahoos (no acquaintence of mine) ride up and are kind of giggling, but they asked me if i was ok. "oh yeah, i'm fine." and i was laughing too, right. so i fiddled with my light a bit (something fell off of it) and put my gloves on because a)its kind of cold i thought and b)if i fell again i wanted to avoid cutting my hands. so i got saddled up and continued on my merry way. a few blocks later i ended up over by city park and caught up with the same people who saw me wreck. right as i pulled next to them one of them spazzed, ran into the curb, and crashed in the grass. laughing hysterically the whole time of course. i slowed and asked if he was ok. "oh yeah, i'm fine." came the reply. then everyone giggled drunken giggles and loved eachother for just a split second. i bolted across mulberry and then somehow got home. yesterday my ribs started hurting, but only if i pushed on them a certain way. when i went a couple efforts on today's after-work ride it hurt a bit. come to think of it it hurts right now just sitting here. but whatever, kind of a funny story.

gb thad is puttin a story of mine in his mag next go'round. its called "certain things last". i may post it here after the mag, if he's cool with that. and oh shit, my dog suey is a media celebrity - he made into this, pg. 13 if they get around to pdf'ing and posting the whole thing.

latest ukulele songs that i've learned:
sex pistols - 'pretty vacant'
whitesnake - 'here i go again'
velvet underground - 'what goes on'
weezer - 'the world has turned', 'my name is jonas'
jackson browne/glen frey - 'take it easy' (i know thats so cheesy - ahh haa haaa haaa haaa)

i love my dog. he got one of these the other day. it was his birthday too you know. geez m. you could have at least sent Him a card ;).

what else.
shit valverde kicked some ass last week.

csc is rolling.

where's discovery? no where in the top 10 of any race last week. wtf?

and i'm gonna go ahead say that TdG was boring. except for jason mccartney lighting it up. i remember him lapping the field as a young 2 at the iowa city criterium; showing up to superweek crits on his bmw motorcycle - bike and spare wheels strapped to the back; dissapearing for a year or so and then just coming back full throttle. look at him now, finishing the giro last year. fucking iowa man. thems good people. had a fantastic talk with him at the philly race in 2000. he had a nice glow in his eye. i'm so stoked for him.

hope the tour is animated. i'm making an early prediction that the winner of the tour de france will be Basso. ulrich is fat again. i'm not sure floyd has the right team. discovery will put in a good show but they won't get the luck. you heard it here a full two months before the prologue of TdF. csc will get a podium at the giro next month and eep rolling all year to win the pro tour team competition. discovery might win the tour of spain. who gives big damn. maybe a little "damn man, he won the tour of spain'. for what its worth.

all of this bike racing talk makes me want to mention: i'm at a five year low body mass wise. last time i was this light i was lying in 6th overall at joe martin.

on a super sad note, jane jacobs died yesterday. she made a lot of change and will be missed.

roger and out.

hee hee.

Man, diet, diet, diet. My extra weight is my downfall in riding my bike fast, always has been since I turned 20 and my metabolism slowed down. What's yer secret Dave?

Hopefully I can be down near 175 by cx season. That's what I weighed in Lincoln, back in the day. I remember I lost 30 pounds in 1995 road season . . . .

secret? no ice cream (a la phil anderson), no soda, no trans fat, get dumped by your girlfriend and get all depressed, then recover from that but stay light and fast.

i just gotta start doing some intervals. look the fuck out.
