played a little hooky from work on friday afternoon - i had it coming since i had to work at two night meetings (fun-stuff, lemee tell ya) last week. so i busted out a 3 hour road ride in the heat. added to my sunburn. all told, ~3 hours and 57miles.
saturday, up at the ass-crack of dawn with the smell of freshly brewed coffee wafting around my nose-hole. i love when i remember to set the coffee maker. ate a bowl of oatmeal, got chamoised up, took a big 'ol morning d (of vital importance to get your day off correctly - you can say "ew" all you want, but you know i'm telling the truth here), packed some food and money and headed out the door. estes was the destination and it was had. then i tacked on an extra 1.5 hours so's to make it an even hundred for the day. 5.5hrs/100miles. went to the river with three (3) cans of dales and one very hot dog when i got home. damn if the river wasn't cranking ... suey loved it.
yesterday up at dawn again. a little tired but feeling quite recovered from the previous two days. so once again, chamoised up, fuelled up on the bean (and a little yogurt) and out the door. no breakfast really - its my new weight loss program. don't eat, go ride for a few hours and watch the pounds just melt away. so i was feeling rambunctuous and decided to do the stove prairie loop the hard way. to masonville and then north to the school. a this point i decided that i didn't want to slog up the backside of rist canyon (a bitch of a hill, 1.3 miles, average of about 11% for the duration - its madness) and instead dropped down to the poudre canyon/hi-way 14. thats the second major canyon i got to ride in two days. purdy good. only one rv with a trailer full of fourwheelers almost took my out which is pretty good for that stretch of road. in the end, 60 miles w/a 19 average. you do the math.
it was a good weekend of riding, to say the least.
so my lady-friend, j. got back into town last night. she was at an archeaological field school (teacher-role) up in wyoming for the last few weeks. the plan was for me to go and find her in meeteetse (thats shoshone for "meeting place") on the 30th, after the enduro, and then take a week long vacation together. but they got chased out of there diggin' site/campground by this gd forest fire. we're still taking that vacation, and i'm glad to see her earlier rather than later (and safer!!), but its a bummer that they lost some equipment and had to bug-out early.
such it goes in the national forest i guess.

u should put up some maps. Butch (FFL), put up a link to something called Bikely.com
Got some friends in Ft. Collins and sure might be fun to head out and see if I can follow your routes. happy peddling.
i've been thinking about doing that, mainly so peeps can get a feel for what i'm talking about.
it'd be fun to show you's flat landers some of the route profiles too. we got some good hills ;).
some of the rides here are pretty awesome - not as many routes to choose from 'a la lincoln' but pretty diverse nevertheless.
How much of the gravel roads that I remember going out of Lincoln in the early and mid 1990s are paved now? I bet a lot considering how much it has grown. That would open up a ton of routes. I need to go back and show the family around some of the places there.
I've only ridden Vedauwoo when I went to Laramie. Nice tacky red rock.
BTW- what's the name of that awesome mexican place in Ft. C, about two blocks east of the picklebarrel? No, not that chipotles place, across the street and a little north from there? Awesome chile rellenos!
If you don't want to mess with any site registration stuff, Gmap-Pedometer is super fast for mapping. Click 'save' and u've a url to send around, no personal info shared.
the place is la luz. i eat lunch there at least thrice a week.
syd, i tried bikely, put up a rist canyon loop or something like that. but forgot to say it was out of fort collins, co.
digging out of 112 emails and 15 phone calls that accumlated over the last week i was on vacation.
