hank rollins for secretary of state!!!

))<>(( ~ anyone know what that means? think "me and you everyone we know"

so there was a little scuttlebut about the office yesterday concerning this piece on the denver news last night. classic investigative journalism. surprsingly, there has been no mention of it in our esteemed local publication, the fort collins coloradoan. our local paper is a piece of crap, owned and operated by non other than the infamous gannett news. regardless, it seems that this would be worth reporting. i mean over 80 of my fellow employees just got the axe .... amazing.

interesting article on how those of us who choose to transport ourselves by methods other than the single occupant vehicle (sov) are being descriminated against ... whether we know it or not. i can confidentally say that for the most part i think this is true. one of the things that i like about working for the city of fort collins - "the choice city" - is that most of our transport related policies try to counteract that very paradigm that has been in place in most american cities for oh, about a 80 years now. we've a long way to go, but we're getting there. baby steps.

lets give it up for hank rollins for speaking his mind. i ran across this quote of his in one of our weekly free papers - the rocky mountain bullhorn. it is hilarious:

"My opinion is that George W. Bush is a pussy and a liar, and I want him in jail."

classic.

Man, what a bunch of bs about Ft. Collins city budget allowances. Seems crooked to me. 1000s for a farewell dinner for a city councilman?

uh dave,

I hope you got some job security. sounds like your job wage could be slighted for a going away prime rib feast when they got rid of those 80 people.

I can just hear the logic. hey, if we get rid of some people around here. the city can pay for the gas in your new hummer so you can get days off to go skiing, on the tax payers dime. oh, and have lunch up there as well.

we'll call it a "workers mental sebatical..."

your uncannily close to my self-prescribed, custom designed and occasionally implemented "mental health program" which consists of me taking a sick day (sick of work day, that is) and taking some time for a "lift served attitude adjustment" at an undisclosed treatment facility west of denver. my current mental state will require that i take at least two of those this year.

and oh yeah, our city council adopted the new budget last night ... it ended up being 107 employees getting the axe and not 80. they'll be here through the end of the month. its so hard to see folks you work with go through this ... especially when you do have a job. its like "dead man walking" everywhere ... super sad.

interesting fact about Oakland speed bumps. Berkeley and Oakland both were pretty friendly towards cyclist and almost decriminatory to cars. Where else do you find 4 way car stops signs (bikes allowed to pass), mutiple speed bumps, and road blocks allowing bikes and emergency vehicles to pass. guess their idea was to get the cars onto main arteries and off the side streets.

heard a report on kut last night that was a community discussion of how to rebuild. strong support for making walking friendly neighborhoods!
