'tis the season

the first 'cross workout of the year sorta played out like this, yo:

about 5 i got motivated and go out on the bike; just thinking of doing some dismount practice, finding a run-up or two, daydreaming about nailing down a little 'cross course blocks from my home - over at hughes stadium. well that took me wandering through pine ridge natural area and over to the new park we're building here in the fort. anyway, as i was riding over the ridge that gives pine ridge its name, i remembered that last sept. there was a group of folks meeting in the area for 'cross practice .....

about 15 seconds later i caught sight of a group of riders floating over makeshift pvc barriers. each and every one of them was fully engaged in a delicate procession of pain.

the system was simple: one lap easy; one lap hard. a hard lap takes ~6 minutes. eventually we'll start doing multiple hard laps. good stuff.

i had good sensations getting off and on the bike, running, and coming out of corners. my recover is a bit lacking, but that is to be expected following a summer of long slow rides and hiking. even so i was surprised at what i could generate at times and repeat at others. i think i'll be ok.

uyup.
